Kangaroo Point is one of the oldest suburbs in Brisbane and the first penal settlement in Queensland. It is located directly east of the Brisbane River from the central business district.

It is known for many popular local attractions, including Kangaroo Point Cliffs, which is on the east bank of the river, Story Bridge and Yungaba House, an iconic building that was built in the 1880s.

Though compact in size, Kangaroo Point offers plenty in terms of culture and recreation. Residents enjoy city and island living at the same time.

The streets are dominated by multi-residential developments and unit complexes, with a few traditional homes in the inner streets. You will find the more exclusive homes and townhouses along Castlebar Street, with some properties featuring private jetties and the loveliest river vistas. Developments

The forecast is bright for Kangaroo Point with a lot of connectivity and development projects planned over the next few years. It is already one of the fastest growing suburbs in Brisbane and this growth will continue over the next decade, thanks to the Cross River Rail and Woolloongabba precinct redevelopment.

Two projects are currently under construction, Lume on Shaftston Avenue, and Amira on Waterloo Street. Both are slated to be completed by the second half of 2019.

A major development project, to be located right on the riverfront in Kangaroo Point, brings to Brisbane one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Banyan Tree Residence, which is rumoured to begin construction in 2019, will feature apartments designed to look and feel like living in a 6-star hotel. It is ideal for established professionals who want to centrally located residence that offers both the comforts of home and the amenities of a relaxing getaway.

Lifestyle

Kangaroo Point is where you can experience adventure, thanks to Kangaroo Point Cliffs and Story Bridge.  

Bounded by East Brisbane, South Brisbane and Woolloongabba, Kangaroo Point may be small (at only 1.3 sq km) but it is very popular with families and professionals. Being close to the city and the lifestyle amenities it offers, it is no surprise that a majority of the population consists of independent youth, with an average age of 20 to 39 years old. Most residents rent in apartments, with only a small portion living in fully owned properties and another small portion presently paying mortgages.

Despite being close to the CBD, there is still sufficient space for recreation. You will also find a few cages, restaurants and bars. The iconic Story Bridge Hotel is located just down the end of Main Street. The Gabba, one of the top sporting stadiums in Queensland, is just off Main Street on Vulture Street.

There are no trains serving Kangaroo Point, but it is still relatively easy to get around and to the city via public transportation, mainly served by South Eastern Busway. There are bike paths running around Kangaroo Point, linking it to Woolloongabba and South Bank. These bike paths will serve you well – whether you are commuting to work, or enjoying a bicycle ride or a scooter ride.

By 2024 at the earliest, the suburb will be getting its train via the Cross River Rail, a project spearheaded by the State Government that promises to elevate transport in and around the Kangaroo Point area.
