Lunar New Year in the City | 16 – 18 February
This event is happening at the Queen Street Mall from 16 – 18 February. Lion and dragon dancers, kung fu performers, traditional music, and more will welcome the Lunar Chinese New Year. There is food at the Asian pop-up food stalls all sorts of free festivities all around to welcome the Year of the Dog.
BrisAsia Kamishibai and Kites | 18 February
Children aged 4 years and above are welcome to join a Kamishibai story about Tom the shorebird and kite-making at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre from 10-11:30 am and at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha from 11 am to 2 pm.
The story of Tom the shorebird as the flies from Siberia to Japan and from Japan to Boondall Wetland will be told through Kamishibai, a form of storytelling the Japanese way. Find out the the astounding lives of migratory shorebirds and their grand treks across continents and countries.
Brisbane Comedy Festival | 23 February – 25 March
To be held at Brisbane Powerhouse, Brisbane City Hall and SunPAC, experience side-splitting laughs from the one-liners, musings and mockery by more than 70 of the funniest national and international comedians. This comedy festival offers the whole gamut of comedy acts, from stand up to improve and sketch comedy. In addition, it will feature up and coming new comedic talents.
The Brisbane Comedy Festival will celebrate its ninth year in 2018, so expect even bigger, better and funnier acts than the past eight years. Join us for a night of hysterical laughs from February 23 to 25 March.
Queensland Reds | 23 February – 14 July
Catch the Queensland Reds in action this season at Suncorp Stadium. Support our boys as they face some tough competition.
Rio Rhythmics Carnaval Parade and Party | 24 February
Brazil will be transported in Brisbane via a party and parade of colour, creativity and dance. The parade will start at the Edward Street end of Queen Street Mall, with over 150 performers and musicians dancing and weaving through Brisbane before continuing the festivities at Reddacliff Place with live music, food stalls and plenty of “Samba energia”.
Kisaragi-Sai Festival | 24 February
This is your opportunity to experience Japanese culture and society with an array of Japanese music and dance, martial arts, Bonsai, market stalls, artist demonstrations, exhibitions and children’s activities.
Brisbane Beer Fest | 24 February
Join thousands of beer aficionados wanting to experience a great day of beer at Queensland’s biggest beer fest.
BrisAsia World Wetlands Day Shorebirds Walk | 24 February
This is a guided walk designed to show the journey that shorebirds take as they migrate from Siberia to the Yatsu Higata Tidelands in Japan and from Japan to the Boondall Wetlands in Brisbane.
There will be no breaks during the walk from 9 am to 11 am, so guests are advised to eat a light meal before the activity.
BrisAsia Creatures of Shore, Sand and Sea | 25 February
Through an interactive display, children can learn about sea life and the the major role that these animals play in the life of migratory shorebirds along the East Asian-Australiasian Flyway to Moreton Bay. See animals that live beneath the sea and learn interesting facts and sea-shore gems. Children are also allowed to touch live marine animals.
The event will be held at the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre from 10 am to 11 am and from 11 am to 12 nn.
